The following is a summary. See the related links below (Language of Lagomorphs) for more information about rabbit behaviour.

Rabbits are crepuscular, which means they're most active at twilight (in the morning and at night), and they usually sleep or nap in the daytime and overnight. This is why it might not be a good idea to keep a bunny in your bedroom.

Rabbits sometimes sleep with their eyes open. Sometimes it looks like your rabbit is dead because she's sprawled on the ground with her eyes open, but really she's sleeping.

Rabbits are grazers, which means they nibble their food off-and-on all day long. This is one reason why you should give your pet rabbit access to fresh hay all the time, 24/7.

Rabbits are prey animals, which means they're very sensitive to their environment, and they're always on the watch for danger. When rabbits are frightened, they might panic or freeze. When they panic, they often hurt themselves by running into things or twisting their backs. When they freeze, they sometimes die of a heart attack. This is why you should control your pet bunny's environment so that it's calm and peaceful.

Rabbits are social. In the wild, the European Rabbit species (the same species that all pet rabbits are) live in big communities. This means they're really good at communication (including your own body language!). This also means that they need companionship. It's normal for rabbits to want to cuddle and ask for petting; it's also normal for rabbits to jump around and act silly, because they love an audience.

Rabbits are active. If you keep your bunny in a cage all day, he will become angry and depressed. He might become aggressive, biting the cages and growling. Or, he might just get boring: sitting there and doing nothing. Healthy and happy rabbits need time outside their cage every day for active play and exercise time, at least 4 hours.

For the same reason, you have to "bunny-proof" the room. Rabbits are curious, and if you don't give your bunny something fun to do, she'll find something fun to do on her own, like chewing your table legs, or biting through electrical wires.
