Animals obtain their food a number of ways;

1) Scavenging for scraps that other animals have left behind

2) Killing and eating other animals

3) Collect and gather vegetation

There are many other ways that they obtain their food, but sadly I do not know them.

There are many species of Cottontail Rabbits. Most animals have instincts to find their food and water. Rabbits get some of their water from dew and moisture from grass they eat. Rainwater collects in low points of a landscape (ponds, lakes, etc.) creating a place for animals to get water. They will also eat plants, seeds, and scraps from humans when available. For example, I put out bread crusts, carrot peels, and strawberry tops for the Desert Cottontails in my front yard.
