well it kind of hard to explain since they are sea animals they can swim for there life but if they die they will float.
When frozen water expands, it gets lighter. So ice can float on top of water instead of sinking to the bottom.

Because the kayak is hollow and doesn't weight too much, it floats instead of sinking. The material changes, but most kayaks are made from plastic or wood.

yeah well basically sometimes my chud floates instead of sinking! I had no idea why until recently when i realised that everytime i eat brocolli it floats. That can't just be a coincidence!

Fish do not normally "float around" they swim. If your fish is floating/sinking then it is probably dead.
