Mosquitoes primarily feed on nectar from flowers. Both males and females will feed in this manner, sucking the nectar through a proboscis, much the same as a butterfly does. However, the female is also capable of drinking blood, an act called haematophagy. Females do not require blood to survive, but they need supplements, such as protein and iron, to enable them to develop and lay their eggs. Only the females drink blood because ( as said before) females need the supplements from our blood to lay their eggs. Also, the females are designed for drinking blood. So if you see a mosquito and it flies away from you , you will know it is a male.
The progeny could have any of the 4 blood groups, viz., A, B, AB and O. (positive only) The ABO blood typing system is an example of codominance. In codominance, both the alleles are expressed.

Confiers have both male and female forms.

Well all animals eat something! Just like we eat all kinds of things from water to burgers to spaghetti. When we look at ticks and think "Why do they drink blood?" Its the same thing if a tick looked at us and said "Ewww, Why do they drink water?" !

How much blood does a vampire bat drink in one day?
Well vampires hate sunlight because that is the only way a vampire can die. Vampires don't eat human food they drink blood you have to choose are you gonna drink human blood or be a vegetarian and drink animal blood or maybe a little bit of both. Vampires do sleep and no not in coffins in regular beds.
Females need blood to develop fertile eggs. Since males do not lay eggs, they do not bite. It goes on to say: Few people realize that mosquitoes rely on sugar as their main source of energy. Both male and female mosquitoes feed on plant nectar, fruit juices and liquids that ooze from plants. The sugar is burned as fuel for flight and is replenished on a daily basis. Blood is reserved for egg production and is imbibed less frequently. So it appears the males rely solely on sugar sources for their energy.
There are several bugs that bleed when they are smashed like flies and bed bugs. Ticks also bleed, but if they have bitten a host, they will release both their own blood and that which they ingested from said host.
Ticks are small arachnids in the order Ixodida. Along with mites, they constitute the subclass Acarina. Ticks are ectoparasites (external parasites), living by hematophagy on the blood of mammals, birds, and sometimes reptiles and amphibians.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tick
