At night when the lights are out. They respond to body heat. That's why they bite you when your sleep. Quickly turn on the lights and you'll see them crawling. I had it real bad, come to find out they build a nest under my mattress. There were hundreds of them. Make sure you check your crease of your mattress that is where they hide out. Good luck!
