After going through all these people that want money to answer a little question like this I went to NAPA. Bought the bulb and the guy there showed me there are two long black plastic clips behind the bucket by the air filter that lift up and release the whole assembly. I hope this helps someone else. Once you have removed the clips either behind the battery box or the breather box (they are slotted to use a flat screw driver to pry the up with but they are made of plastic so be careful) once you have the clips free the assembly can be lowered half an inch and slid forward till it comes free. The wires are attached using a clip on top and some really tight form fitting rubber gasket. Hold the bulb assembly in one hand and use your thumb to lift up on the clips then use a flat bit screw driver to gently work the plug loose. (Same with turn signal lights.) Take the bulbs loose by twisting them counter clockwise. They will then come free of the assembly. Be careful not to touch the glass as you slide the new bulb out of the package and into the headlight assembly. Once you lock them into place, turning clockwise, slid the wire back on. Make sure to place the 9005 bulb on the outside for low beams and the 9006 on the outside for the High beams. You do not want the XS series as they are not angled at 90' and will not allow the assembly to fit back into place properly. Once you have replaced the bulbs and slid the assembly back into place line up the square plugs on the back of the assembly into their holes and slide the plastic retainer clips back down over them making sure to catch the stud head they are meant to slip on first. If the assembly is loose swap the plastic tabs, one is slightly longer than the other. After everything is locked into place use a #15 torx driver to adjust the beams to where you need them. The up and down is right above the light but to get to the left and right adjuster you will need to look into the hole in the front frame directly behind, above and slightly to the outside edge of the headlights. (Chevy really went out of the way to hide this one) Hope this helps.
Pull the complete headlight assembly out to get to the bulb.
the headlight assembly needs to come out in order to change the bulb ive had to do that to my 98 as well.
It sounds like your low beam filament in the headlight bulb is gone. Try replacing the headlight bulb.
You can just change the bulb. Pop off the wiring harness, then it's a twist lock plastic piece and the bulb comes out. Replacements are about $6 at WalMart
