Well,... It kind of means that you don't care for things... or show no affection. That's what i think.
Have or Show empathy would be more correct than Use empathy.
Show empathy by actively listening to the other person without judgment, acknowledging their feelings, and expressing understanding of their perspective. You can also offer support and validate their emotions to show that you care about their well-being. Lastly, practicing kindness and helping however you can can demonstrate your empathy towards others.
Scout shows her empathy toward Boo by leaving a blanket for him during the cold night and by walking him home after the attack on Jem and herself. Both actions demonstrate her understanding and concern for Boo's well-being.

Empathy is the ability to recognize the emotions of another sentient entity. An example is when you see an ill person and you pity him/her, or when you see children playing and you know they are happy. Empathy is thought to be the prerequisite for sympathy and compassion. However, simply having empathy is not enough for sympathy. One can see a person smiling and understand that they are happy, yet not feel happy at the same time. Additionally, people who torture other people certainly are empathetic but they show no compassion.
