Why are creationists upset with Darwin's theory?
His theory doesn't fit with their ideas. They usually use the Bible to answer questions that science already has or is working on. These are questions that are not scientific questions but ones that are best debated and answered by philosophy.

This is a common claim made by creationists, but is absolutely not true. Darwin never recalled his theory of evolution, or became a theist (seeing as he was an atheist later in life) before he died. This is a false rumor promoted by non-scientific figures, and should not be taken seriously. Such a person would have to meet three requirements: 1) Publishes articles in peer reviewed scientific journals. 2) Religious or not, he/she doesn't concern him/herself with creationism. 3) Objects to evolution. I know of people who publish scientific articles and aren't religious/creationists - but they don't object to evolution. I know of people who publish scientific articles and object to evolution (though not simultaneously) - but they are creationists. I know of people who object to evolution but are not creationists - however they don't publish. I know of no people who meet all three criteria.

Why was variation the weakest concept in Darwin's theory?
Variation?!?! That was an obvious observation of naturalists that opposed Darwin's concepts totally. Unless you mean the heritability that leads to variation? Explaining that variation was the problem. Creationists of the time explained this by positing god's whimsy in designing his species, but this was shown to be nonsense as natural processes are at work in variation and this can be shown experimentally. The concept of natural selection explained how that natural variation was selected on beneficial traits. What Darwin did not understand is how that variation was passed on to progeny. His explanation was wrong.
