How do dogs defend them selfs?

Tough call. Some dogs can be "backed down" by an aggressive approach (yelling "go home!" and walking into the dog). That would work if the dog is unsure of himself. A better idea would probably be to stand still and try to diffuse the situation by not challenging the dog. Most likely he will just sniff and eventually lose interest. If the dog actually has a grip on you, the best bet would be to keep on your feet and try to choke him with his collar. (Provided he is wearing a collar.) People tend to beat, kick, punch these dogs, and that generally doesn't work. They were bred to tolerate pain to a large extent. But they can only go so long without air. RUN

I'd try to break its windpipe by punching it in the throat or the sides of the lower back of its head, below the scull where the neck joins the head. The first will stop it from breathing easily forcing it to back off, and the second could knock it out or kill it with pressure on the brain. Be careful not to hit its scull 'cause you'll hurt your hand.

Another possible deathstrike is to hit its spine from above and one side between the big bump near its shoulders and its scull with the heel of your palm as hard as you can. This might break its neck. A human's spine can be broken in this area using a "spinal tap" technique with only 30 lbs. of pressure.

The jaw and neck of the animal are the two strongest parts of its body. Kicks to the chest, belly, and groin of the dog my cause damage. If your strong, you can pull the front legs apart, which can snap the heart chamber of the animal. Keep in mind dogs go for the throat, so act fast.

First of all remain calm. You must also understand the reason of the attack. A dog may attack by one of three reasons:

  • It feels threatened
    • It was trained to attack
    • It is ill
  • Do not taunt a dog, even if you think it can't reach you.

That it feels threatened includes that you enter his territory, that you approach the dog in a threatening or too amicable manner or that the dog has been so mistreated by humans that it feels threatened by them.

If the dog is ill, it will be aggressive and afraid, attacking as a defensive action.

Of all of the above, usually the attack will limit to barking and aggressive running towards you, occasionally with some fast and small bite directed to your legs or extended hands. Only in the case of a dog trained to attack, the bitting will be the most important action. This is unless the attack is a response to something you have done to the dog.

A dog must be always approached without showing fear or curiosity or even interest, never looking with insistence as that is a predators and a challenging behavior. Fear is also interpreted as a need for action, so avoid it.

If you want to approach a dog, best is to let him approach you and allow him to smell your scent without showing any interest. If you at some moment approach the hands, always do it with the palms up never with a closed hand or the palm down. Never hide a hand behind your back and always try to approach without sudden movements. remember that you are the creature coming from above, not at the dog's same level, so you are intimidating in your appearance and only that may be interpreted as a threat.

Play is something all creatures understand, so it can be a good way of approaching as far as the game does not involve touching the dog.

If you are indeed attacked, don't turn and run, walk away fast and decided but still giving the front to the dog. Don't try to kick or punch, a dog is faster than you and you will be bitten. Rather try to appear bigger than you are opening your coat or your arms and shout STOP! with firm and strong voice. Water is a good stopper if you have access to it. If the attack continues, try to find a high or a closed place to hide until the dog looses interest.

If you are attacked by a dog trained for that, you will notice immediately as the dog will not make small runs and stops to you, it will most probably run straight to bite for immobilizing you. Depending of the training, the dog may attack your legs, your arms or your neck. Turn a coat or some clothing around your arm and let the dog bite there where he will not harm you, while you retreat to a safe place. You can also try to throw a coat over the dog.

If you see yourself in a "fight for your life" struggle, instead of kicks and punches or defending from the bites, go to the offensive and catch with both hands the head of the dog with your palms at each side and your thumbs pushing up the jaws, that is the part you must immobilize. Other way is to grab the skin at the back of his neck and under his neck and make him turn, then keep grabbing the skin at the back of his neck and grab the skin a bit more down near the tail, keeping the dog with the back to you. Be aware that an untrained person will most probably be bitten quite a lot in the hands while trying to do this, but it can stop the bites before arriving to more sensible areas. The dog will not stop with this maneuvers, so these are only time givers while you either put the dog inside some place or put yourself in a safe place.

always remember that a dog only attacks by a reason ,so don't cause it!

First of all if you are approached by an unfamiliar dog (and I'm not going to use "pit bull" because you are overgeneralizing which is not fair to the breed) approaches you, the best thing to do is to not make eye contact. In "dog speak" eye contact can be seen as a threat. Also, you can turn aroud. This will show the dog that you are no threat to it. Many people thing you can scare away a dog, which sometimes works for timid dogs who are probably just trying to look vicious to scare you away.

Most if not all dog attacks could be avoided if the dog has a responsible owner and if you know how to use "dog speak" to say "I AM NO THREAT TO YOU!"

It is always best to remain as silent as you can as any screaming or shouting will only add to the dogs excited aggressive state. Remain standing if you can, do not flap your arms about trying to push it away as you will get bitten easily by doing this. Never turn your back on an attacking dog, you have to stand your ground and attempt to grab it by the scruff and push/pull it to the floor. If you can achieve this, simply hold the dog down until it calms down and submits. You can then get up and walk away calmly.

good luck doing that if a dog attacks it will most likely go for your legs first then might try to eat you so try not to if you can find a weak spot for the dog and can get it but kill it before it kills you

Well dogs mostly use there teeth or claws to protect them selfs. But sometimes a dog barks when it feels that its been agervated. Also some dogs might even feel too agervated and attack whatever is agervating him/her.When you hear a dog growling at you always step back real slowly and not say a word if you do the dog might attack you and if you get lucky it wont.if you stay still the dog will think your a statue or something, but it wont attack.

One way is to stand your ground and say, very loudly and demanding, stand very tall and erect when you say this. Another way is to shoot it, but that is probably not a very likely choice.
