Animal skins provides clothing for the Eskimos; their favorite is caribou because it is warm and lightweight. Lacking caribou they would settle for seal, polar bear, or even Arctic fox. Styles varies from area to area, but in all regions everyone wear the same combination: a hooded jacket, trousers or leggings, socks, boots, and mittens. Sometimes goggles made from wood or bone were worn. In winter two sets of clothes were used. The inner layer would have fur next to the skin. The second layer would have fur on the outside. Air between the two layers help keep body heat in and allowed perspiration to evaporate. A single layer is enough during summers.

Eskimos used the seal and caribou hides that were left over to make some clothes and make skin tents for the summer. They also used the snow and ice around them to make igloos. Eskimos used the wood around to start a fire??? I am not so sure about that.....

they tought us how to use sealskin cloths I'm not sure that they have. Yes, their lifestyle is arduous and inspiring, but to Australians? Who have mostly hot weather, beaches and a laid back sub-culture? I personally have never been inspired by the Eskimos. I'm sure they are wonderful people, but they don't figure in my life.

Inuits do not have igloos.
