How they hunt depends on the species of fish. As with any fresh water, salt water, tropical or otherwise, there are fish that are "bottom" feeders in which they forage for food by searching the sand, rocks, coral, and plants for food. Some fish are are "top" feeders meaning they look to the surface for their food. While others can be both. How they hunt also depends on if they are carnivores, scavengers, vegetarians, or omnivores. If you know what species of fish you have or are wanting to learn more about you can do a web search or better yet be able to go to your local public library to find more information out about the fish.
