they survive because a storm is out of the water not inside of the water so as long as the fish is in the water the fish would be perfecly fine
Goldfish are freshwater fish and can not survive in saltwater environments (oceans, etc) They can only survive in freshwater (non saltwater such as ponds, rivers, and lakes).
Goldfish cannot live in rivers, they are 100% aquarium fish. They do not have strong enough immune systems to live in the wild and they cannot survive the fall and rise of the temperaure outside year round. Also river water will be to rapid for the fish to swim in.
They lived near water so that they could easily and frequently fish. The fish was then stored so that there would be enough food to survive the winter.
Some can, most can't. Some that can are salmon which swim up rivers to spawn as adults and certain sharks, like the bull shark, that can survive lengthy periods in freshwater.
Sea fish don't live in rivers because rivers don't have coral or any sea plants. The sea plants are vital for some fish. That and some of the sea fish are to big for rivers.
