God parents are a witnesses to a baptism. This is usually applied to infant baptism.
Both godparents and infant baptism are not found in The Bible. Baptism in the Bible is the baptism of a believer/ a Christian.
I wish to have two godmothers & one godfather. My son was born out of wedlock to a man who abandoned us & has never come to visit him or pay 1 cent in child support. He never gave me $ at any time from the moment he knew we were expecting to be chosen to turn to drugs as a 48-year-old “Christian Man of Faith”. His drug use consumed his entire paycheck, apparently during our courtship, he had a problem that he succeeded session hiding from me & everyone in my family! I'm struggling with a series of unsuccessful and ultimately detrimental surgeries & cannot care for my 20-month-old! My mother is caring for him & I'm in or grandfather bc my father & I haven't spoken in over a decade) now the church is shunning me bc my choice of 2 godmothers & 1 godfather who are all catholic but not up to snuff in their opinion. My son is being baptized on the 17th & i don’t know how this is going to happen. I pray my son is accepted into my faith but I am at the end of a very short rope I hope and pray the judgments made about me as a sinning unmarried woman don't taint or even prohibit the baptism of my baby next Saturday! Please pray for our little family this baby deserves all the blessings of the church & if turned away it will mark the end of a family bloodline that goes back centuries! My entire future & that of my baby boys hinges on draconian rules & I feel small but my baby will be recognized as a child of God just maybe not in the Catholic faith but in another Denomination Christianity

Godparents are there simply to reinforce the teachings of the parents and their promise to bring up the child in the way of Christ. The godparents are like teachers, supporting the parents in what they do, but the real task of bringing children to Christ rests with the parents.
