Government doesn't prevent planes from crashing. Companies do when they follow regulations concerning maintenance and pilot training. It is up to the companies to have concerns over the people who fly. Unfortunately, many planes are repaired and maintained with second hand and off brand parts. The airlines are concerned with the bottom line and profits. That is one reason they filled the planes with as many seats as possible, charge for everything, and leave people sitting on tarmacs.
