Wild Hedgehogs get there food by finding insects or bugs such as centipedes, moths, flies, bees, etc., to eat as they are insectivores but they also are able to eat fruit, vegetables, and poisonous snakes. When a poisonous snake attacks a hedgehog, the venom is unable to penetrate it's quills and therefore the hedgehog waits for the snakes death then eats it's carcass.
Hamsters have a very strong sense of smell I'm pretty sure its 10 times stronger than a humans. So whether its in their food bowl or hidden in their cage they'll find it. However if your hamster is not eating your food it probably isn't hungry.

Get them food!
Only like 3 to 5 days because hamsters are really small animals and easy food to bigger animals. It also depends where it is lost. If it's lost in a garden then it won't last as long as if it's in the kitchen because it can find food. Hopefully you can find it.
