Helper T cells help to activate T-cytotoxic cells and B-cells. For instance, if you become infected with a pathogen, a macrophage can consume that pathogen and then present parts of it on its own MHC (Major Histocompatability Complex) receptors. T helper cells then detect this and if this is a pathogen previously encountered, it can stimulate T-cytotoxic cells to begin attacking infected cells, and stimulate B-memory cells to begin rapidly dividing into B-plasma cells to produce anitbodies.

T cells destroy pathogens.

What is the function of the T helper cells?

T cells destroy pathogens.

Which cells in the immune system identify pathogens and distinguish one pathogen from another?

B cells and Helper T cells

How do killer cells work?

Killer t cells are activated by helper t cells. The Helper t cells are alerted by the macrophage that has engulfed the virus. It grows antigens to alert the helper t cells. The killer t cells are like white blood cells, there purpose is to fight pathogens.

What occurs within the t4 cell?

T4 cells, also known as CD4 or helper T cells, protect the immune system in the body from infection. These cells release cytokines into the blood stream as a defense against antigens from viruses.

How HIV increases the danger of secondary infections?

HIV invades helper T cells, which then begin to produce HIV soon after their infected. As helper T cells die, the immune system gradually weakens and becomes overwhelmed by pathogens that it would normally detect and destroy.

What do the Hebrew word ayzer mean?

"AY-zehr" = roughly "helper" In the original Hebrew text of Genesis, Eve was created in order to be Adam's "AY-zehr k'NEG-do" ... roughly his "helper as if against him". (Commonly translated as his "helpmeet", or a "suitable helper" for him. Both translations miss the important element "k'NEG-do" ... "as if against him" ... a partner to oppose, resist, challenge, always in a helpful fashion, and in so doing to help the man achieve his potential.)

Are lymphocytes one of the body's first-line defense against infection?

Yes, the lymphocytes (more commonly known as white blood cells) are a major component of the body's immune system. It is very complex with numerous members that all play important roles (some of which are the B cells, macrophages, helper T cells, cytotoxic T cells, dendritic cells, eosinophil, basophil and neutrophil).
