The rotation of the Earth is most responsible for the differences in temperature between the seasons. As the Earth tilts on its axis it can tilt further away from the sun, cooling that part, or toward the sun, raising the temperature.

What is the temperature in Jan in Utah?

Temperatures in Utah vary greatly from season to season and region to region. In the winter, temperatures in the northern part of the state reach below -10 F. Summer temperatures in the north are typically in the 90's with several days over 100. In the south, winter temperatures typically don't drop below 20, but summer temperatures over 110 can be expected. It is not unusual in some parts of Utah for the night temperature to be in the 30's and the daytime temperature to be in the 70's.

How does global warming affect flora?

Summer comes, Winter comes, each have their characteristic [for a 'given' latitude] mean {average} high and low temperatures. With Global warming - also known as Climate change - this 'band of normal temperatures' tends to move to more northerly latitudes, thereby drawing the normal growth cycle of flora [plants] northward with them. This will be equally noticeable in the Trees.

My ceiling fan doesn't have a summer and winter switch - how can I change it from summer to winter?

Your fan must be an industrial model. Commercial fans usually have reversing switches mounted beside the speed controller for the fan. The reasoning behind this is that the fans are usually in warehouses that have high ceiling that are hard to get to switch from summer to winter. To switch from summer to winter in your type of fan, the wiring has to be changed inside the motor box. Fans for use in homes will all have the reverse switch.
