It is absolutely unavoidable that people will have some impact on the environment. We have to eat, wear clothing, have dwelling places, work and move around. And of course we produce bodily waste most of which we prefer to dump into waterways rather than return it to the land where it belongs. The question really is whether or not we have to badly exploit and waste the world's resources in order to do those things. The realistic answer is yes, we do.

The world systems that are already in place and that depend on the exploitation and rape of the planet are too big and powerful to be stopped. Think about all of the businesses that are dependent to any degree on petroleum products and you will see what I mean. Much too much wealth and power are connected to the oil industry, and and Big Business wields much too much power for any realistic change to take place. We are greedy by nature, because it is part of what made us successful in our evolutionary journey until now. That greed will win out over any passing thoughts of concern we may have over the ability of future generations to exist, let alone thrive. We are heading for trouble at breakneck speed.
