Surging is often fixed by replacing the fuel filter. A simple job and most small engine shops will have the part.

Im not sure about a 92, but when it happened to my 98, i had to replace the Idle control valve. its generally about 50 bucks and is very easily done.

Your manager is telling you to fix the problem. You have to make sure that your till balances each night.
Your surging means that air/fuel mix is not optomized. after being sure that all else is ok, look for docs on web about how to set carb. All else means: good gas, clean filters, linkage free, nothing binding, etc.
Stare at it till it fixes it self with it hands and the knowledge that there is a Internet (hint hint) to research how to fix it self (hint hint).
