Certainly, provided they are deceased. this is done all the time for- deceased members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, etc. there is even a Veteran"s chapel with honor roll of fallen troops in the Saint Vincent"s church ( a French parish in many ways- even the architecture is French Greek-style) on 23rd st.

Roman Catholic Answer:Call your local Catholic Church and ask the secretary if you can have a Mass said for (whoever you want the Mass offered for). If it is for a living person, it is usually said for their intentions, for Thanksgiving, or some such, you can ask the secretary for guidelines. There is usually a stipend of $5 or $10 (sometimes called a stole fee). This is NOT payment for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass!

What is special about the Catholic mass?

The Catholic Mass is a liturgical Mass whose roots are deeply in early Christianity and in the Bible. Nearly everything said in a Mass is from the Bible, and many of the images and actions that take place can be found in the book of Revelations, in the description of the heavenly Jerusalem. Catholic Mass also places heavy emphasis on the Eucharist (it's not technically a Mass if there is no Liturgy of the Eucharist). Catholics believe Mass is the same sacrifice Jesus offered (not a recreation of it or a repetition but the exact same sacrifice), offered in an unbloody manner.

What are the two categories of Roman Catholic Mass?

Roman Catholic AnswerNot sure what you are asking here. The Mass is not usually divided into categories. Although there is a private Mass - a Mass said with no congregation versus a public Mass. There is now the Ordinary Form of the Mass, which is the Mass promulgated by Pope Paul VI following the 2nd Vatican Council; and the Extraordinary Form which is the Mass originally promulgated by Pope Pius V, and last revised under Pope John XXIII.

Why do they say the Mass has begun instead of the Mass has ended when ending a Catholic Mass?

You must be thinking of the Latin Ite missa est from the old Tridentine formula. I believe this means Go, you are dismissed. Go the mass has begun is not said at the end of the vernacular mass, either.
