locate the fuel pressure valve. This in near the fire wall right behind the intake manifold. It looks like a valve stem like on your tire. unscrew the cap and hook up a fuel pressure guage. use the guage to drain the fuel. If you dont have one, place a lot of shop towels around it and use something that wont cause a spark to depress the nipple. do this until no fuel comes out. Also remember to unscrew the gas cap to relieve any pressure in the gas tank. I also suggest that you buy a haynes manual which will explain everything to you with pictures. You can pick one up for about 20 bucks at a local auto parts store. This is my bible for my 97 z28.
Relieve fuel system pressure. detatch filter bracket from the chasis. depress the plastic quick release tabs and detatch the lines from the filter. use one wrench to steady the filter and another to unscrew the fuel line fitting and remove filter.

Fuel tank must relieve pressure before you remove it.
May be a clogged fuel filter. If you change it yourself you need to relieve the pressure first or you will get a face full of gas when you loosen the filter line.
relieve the pressure in you fuel system by disconnecting your fuel pump the change the fuel filter the hook your pump back up
Find the fuel pump inertia (aka emergency shut-off) switch located behind the passenger side kick panel and press the button to disable it. crank the engine a few rounds to relieve the pressure. change the fuel filter and reset the inertia switch.
Depress the Schrader valve on the fuel rail mounted on the engine. It looks like the valve stem on your tires.
You don't. Just make sure the key is not on (best to not have it in the ignition at all) When you loosen the fuel filter, the pressure will relieve by leaking on the ground. Expect less than a half cup of fuel to leak out from pressure. The remainder fuel will be from inside the filter housing. Get ready to get your hands soaked in gasoline. Dont listen to that guy. You can relieve the gas pressure by simply open your gas cap and leave if off the entire time when you're working on your fuel filter. Some fuel will still leaks out from the fuel filter but at least it's not going to spray on your face.
it isn't necessary to relieve any pressure prior to replacing the fuel filter on the 2005 Impala, however be mindfull of the gas tha is in the lines and in the filter when it comes off
should be directly above the oil filter
remove the fuse for the fuel pump and try to start the car, if it starts it will only run for a second or two then die, then you have relieved the fuel pressure.
Under hood, driver side, mounted on upper firewall in fuel line. Loosen the gas cap to relieve any tank pressure. Look for a Schroeder valve on the fuel rail, to relieve fuel pressure. When disconnecting the fuel filter wrap it with a rag and be prepared for a sudden spray of fuel. Buy the new filter and you can then see how it is connected.
