If you have a problem with the air flow meter you will get lack of power and engine light on! If you do remove sensor if it is the cassette type with the two torx screws! Spray with carb cleaner, blow out with air line and refit. As oil deposits sit on hot wire and causes problem!

What is airflow meter?

An air flow meter, also know as air consumption meter, is a device that measures how much air is flowing through a tube. It does not measure the volume of the air passing through the tube, it measures the amount of mass flowing through the device in a defined time segment. So, an air flow meter is just an application of mass flow meters for a special medium.

How can you tell if the air flow meter is bad on a 87 300zx terbo?

To determine if the air flow meter on a 1987 300ZX Turbo is bad, you can start by checking for any trouble codes using an OBD scanner, as a faulty air flow meter often triggers a check engine light. Additionally, you can inspect the wiring and connectors for damage or corrosion, and perform a visual check for any physical obstructions or leaks in the intake system. A common diagnostic test involves measuring the resistance and voltage output of the meter while the engine is running; if the readings are outside the manufacturer's specified range, the meter may be faulty. Lastly, a noticeable decrease in engine performance or poor fuel economy could also indicate a malfunctioning air flow meter.

Could a faulty air flow meter cause loss of power?

Yes, a faulty air flow meter can cause a loss of power in a vehicle. The air flow meter measures the amount of air entering the engine, which is crucial for the engine control unit to optimize fuel injection and ignition timing. If the meter is malfunctioning, it can lead to an incorrect air-fuel mixture, resulting in poor engine performance, reduced power, and potential stalling.
