Seals are probably shot. Replace the pump/reservoir assembly.
Assuming you have power steering, you may have a loose belt or the power steering system has a leak and the power steering fluid reservoir is low or empty.
Might be due to low/no fluid level in the power steering reservoir.
If your van is leaking power steering fluid, first check the fluid level and look for visible leaks around the power steering pump, hoses, and reservoir. Clean the area to identify the source of the leak more easily. If the leak is minor, you might be able to tighten fittings or replace a worn hose, but if the leak is significant, it's advisable to consult a mechanic for a thorough inspection and repair. In the meantime, avoid driving the vehicle to prevent steering failure.
To tighten the steering you just tighten the nut under it and then your done. NICE
Tighten power steering belt 2002diamonte
Do you need to tighten the entire pump assembly (brackets and belt) or just tighten the steering box?
Where on the rack is it leaking? if it is a union (where the hydraulic pipes and the rack meet) then you may just need to tighten up the union, however if it is leaking from the steering rack gaitor then it isn't as quick as doing up a bolt. The only way to solve a leaking power steering rack, if it is leaking from anywhere other than a union, on the sharan (7M0) is to replace the rack, it is a fairly simple job that any practiced home mechanic with the correct tools can do. I hope this helps but if you have any other queries on this please contact me and I can answer in more detail for you.
I assume you mean that it won't STOP leaking. If the leak is coming from the parts you replaced, then there is a defect, or you cross-threaded or failed to tighten something. But the leak may be coming from the rack (the part between the front wheels that the lines go to). THAT is a major job to replace. It could also be coming from a cracked fluid reservoir.
You can have your steering column tighten for approximately $75. The cost is dependent upon the hourly rate of the mechanic.
No.
The power steering pump is movable to tension the belt. There are 3 or 4 cap screws to loosen and an adjustment bolt under the pump to tighten or loosen the belt.Hard to describe but easy to see and understand if you remove the air filter box.(easy to remove)
