a blown head gasket usually results in over-heating. is your coolant needing to be topped of regularly and there is no sign of a leak on the ground? the coolant is leaking into the engine oil. check your dipstick, if there is coolant in the oil then you have a blown head gasket. the oil will appear a milky brown, like creamed coffee, not the usual dark color. typically when a head gasket is changed it is a good idea to have the head redecked to ensure that there is no warpage. there is no way to tell without removing the head. price will vary depending on location, but around here i would think a head gasket job would run upwards of $1500, not inc. a new head.
