When any policy is taken out, you fill a form which has the name and details of the beneficiary, so it is quite simple to trace them
How do I know.I'm only 9 years old!
Once an insurance company (insurer) receives a valid proof of loss (claim form), the insurer will begin the process of contacting beneficiaries of any life insurance. The insurer will first contact the primary beneficiary. If unable to locate the primary beneficiary, or if the primary beneficiary is dead, the insurer will then move to the contingent beneficiary (second beneficiary). If the insurer has no response to the contingent beneficiary, the insurer then moves to the tertiary beneficiary (third beneficiary). Failure here will force the insurer to pay any life proceeds to the estate of the decedent, which can open the claim to the creditors of the decedent in most states. More than 40% of life insurance policies in America have no named beneficiary! Failure to name the beneficiary can leave your loved ones in a bind. Always name your beneficiaries. List one or more in each category (primary, contingent, tertiary) too. Most people name their spouse first, children as contingent, and parents or siblings as tertiary.
How do I locate commercial life insurance company in Milwaukee Wisconsin
As with all life policies, when the insurance company is notified of the death of the insured, they will make every effort to locate the beneficiaries based on what information has been supplied to them by the owner/insured of the policy. However, if they are unable to locate a beneficiary, they are legally required to escheat the amount of the benefit in the beneficiary's name to the State Treasurer's Office of the State their Home Office is in. This amount isn't 'lost', the beneficiary need only contact that Treasurer's office and request it. As to contacting a beneficiary when a premium hasn't been paid? Privacy regulations state that they can't contact anyone on the policy unless the policyowner specifically asks that they do so. The policy is a contract between the company and the policyowner, until the insured dies the beneficiary has no right to any information. == ==
Usually the insurance company takes extreme care to locate and pay beneficiaries who are listed by the decedent. If they cannot find a person, then the money is held until they can. You could contact the insurance board, but first check to be sure that the person who did not get paid was actually a beneficiary.
I'm not sure if I understand your question. I am assuming that you know a life insurance policy has been taken out with you as a beneficiary but you do not have any paper proof, etc. so you are not sure which company it is. If this is your situation, you may be able to find some information by checking the deceased person's check books, credit card receipts which may indicate premiums paid to an insurance company.
