The gerbil can, but it depends on the personality of the two gerbils. Make sure you keep track of them in case any fighting happens. The best thing to do would be to put a chicken wire type screen in the middle of the cage to see if they have any disputes with the protection of the wire. Remember, it all depends on the personality of both of the gerbils. It also depends what new gerbil you are talking about. If it is a new female gerbil, most likely the male will be perfectly fine with it. If the new gerbil is actually a male, however, than be very cautious with any activity involving the two. Also make sure that each gerbil has its own food and water supply. The main fighting that may occur between the two gerbils will be over food and water. Make sure you supply each gerbil with its own playing equipment, too, and try not to give one gerbil more attention over the other. It all depends on the personality of the gerbils for anything to work out.

Use the split cage method. Make a screen out of chicken wire with a wooden frame, place it in the center of the tank (or a cage but tanks work better). Have food and water and toys on both sides and place the new male on the empty side while your other male is on the other side. Every day trade handfuls of bedding between the two. Do this for a week switching more and more bedding, when it is over a week you can cautiously remove the barrier between the two. This time is crucial. Do not leave the area (this stage is best to do on the weekend when you can keep an eye on them). Most likely the male gerbil can accept the new male gerbil (I hope you're not trying to breed without reading up on them) because they are both highly social creatures. They should get along just fine but if they start to fight in ball-form you need to separate them; they will not get along if this happens.

Use the split tank method when introducing to new gerbils. If you are using a Fish Tank /Aquarium as a gerbil cage, you will need a fish divider to put between the cage. (This item can be bought at your local pet store.) It is like a gerbil cage top. Its made from Mesh and I wouldn't use it unless you have a Aquarium tank. If you have a mettle bar cage, You need to put the to cages side by side so the bars on both cages meet. This lets them get used to each others smell without harming each other. After about 2 Weeks of this, you can move one of the gerbils into the others cage. If your doing this will females and males for breeding, do the same thing, but place the female into the males cage. Also, if your planning to breed, please read all the information about gerbil breeding before you pair a male and female together. Its very important you know what your doing before you do it.

It's not really something that's likely to happen, unless the 2 current gerbils are young. Otherwise, they'll fight, possibly to the death.

Yes you can but you have to be careful and it could end up in a huge fight killing 1 of them if your not careful.

Do adults gerbils like younger gerbils?

it all depends on how you introduce them because i have two gerbil and one is an adult and one is still young and they get along very well If a Gerbil has lived alone for a long time however it can be very difficult to introduce a new friend to it. I have a 2 year old female that refuses to accept a companion however the younger one I bought to pair with her happily accepted a baby Gerbil as a friend.

Can gerbils have babies after one year of age?

Yes. I have a friend and she has gerbils that are over one year old. They have had babies. In a gerbils lifespan gerbils have around 15 litters of babies.

One of your gerbils died the other one is all alone do you get another one?

If they were in a pair and one died, it is hard to introduce them to each other.Watch some videos on youtube of people introducing their pet gerbils and how they did it.

Once i had 3 gerbils one of them died. Now they all look sad and bored. Can i introduce a younger gerbil to my older ones?

you can, but its a lot of effort, so it probably would be easier for you not to... I have to get a divided cage and put your older gerbils in one side and the new gerbil on the other side. You swap them every 2/3 days because this will get them used to being in each others' territories. after about 2/3 weeks you can introduce them together and they should hopefully like each other.

What happenes if you only get 1 gerbil?

He will become lonely and depressed, you will have to spend a lot of time with him so he is OK. Do not try to introduce a pair of gerbils that are strangers as they will fight (sometimes to the death).

Can gerbils get along with other gerbils?

Providing they have been together since birth then yes. In fact gerbils are very sociable and should be kept with same-sex company as a lonely gerbil has been proven to live signficantly less time than one with company. Unfortunately they are very territorial and if you do have a lonely adult then the only way to introduce a friend of the same gender to them is via the splitcage method. There are plenty of guides to this online.
