Best Answer

Some jellyfish consume plankton while others prey on small fish and other marine animals.

Either way the jellyfish extract nutrients from their food, including carbohydrates. These carbohydrates are then reacted with oxygen in a process called aerobic respiration, a process similar to combustion which is the basis of all animal metabolisms.

The orca is a obligate aerobe the way all animals are. Therefore whales convert oxygen and a carbon source to ATP (Adenosine Triphospate), Heat, and Water. ATP is energy by a generalized process called cellular respiration. In aerobic respiration ATP is generated by the Electron Transport Chain and Oxidative Phosphorylation. The specifics of the ETC Chain and Oxidative Phosphorylation is different for every organism.

Can you harvest electricity from a jellyfish?

Yes, a jellyfish is comprised of Nematocyst capsule and tenticles, the sting from a Jellyfish is not electricity. It is a toxin produced in the Nematocyst. The only way to harvest electricity from a Jellyfish would be from the small amount of heat that is produced from the living organism. An enormous Jellyfish farm would be required in order to produce enough heat to move a turbine. So nope, you haven't figured out the worlds energy crisis..... They are useless little fu*?kers!!
