How do magazines affect society?

Girls see all those thin models in the magazines wearing cute, expensive clothes and looking happy. After seeing these repeatedly, they are, in a way, "brainwashed" into thinking that is what they should look like. So they try to lose some weight and consider themselves fat. The thing with eating disorders is that no matter how much weight they lose, they want to lose more. It is possible to die from this. I would like to note that not everyone is affected by these pictures and develops a negative self-esteem causing an eating disorders. However, it is an increasing occurance.

Magazines are such a great asset to society because it helps inform people of what's going on in the world. However, unlike a newspaper which is usually black and white in picture, a magazine is full of colorful, eye catching pictures and advertisement. Magazines help people make sound purchases on everything from lipstick, to cars. It is a key asset to businesses and consumers alike.
