In the USA obstetricians get certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. After they've completed an approved residency, they take Part 1 of their boards--a written exam. After working in independent practice, they can take Part 2 of their boards--an oral exam (based on case histories). Obstetricians who became board certified after the mid-1980s have to recertify on a regular basis. Currently this includes case lists, annual exams and learning modules. In India, the MD OBGYN qualifications is good enough for a doctor to practice obstetrics and gynecology.
