Also, because they get paid more, they can leave the cocoa in its natural habitat, where it grows better. When they do that, they will not cut down forests or use as much fertilizer or pesticides (Helping the environment).
Depending on how cocoa beans are farmed there can be damaging effects to the environment. One negative impact that cocoa farming has is deforestation.
