some pesticides such as methyl bromide accumulate in the air. this effects our ozone layer. it converts ozone molecules to oxygen harming our ozone layer
Depends on the type of pesticide. For example a synthetic pyrethroid would break down fairly quickly, where as something like DDT would not, and would slowly accumulate in the food chain
food chains end with
b/c animals in which the birds are eating are being affected by the pesticides which kills them. If the animals at the lower part of the food chain start to grow extinct then there will be no more food for the animals at the top of the food chains which means they will more than likely die off or become extinct
Organochlorine pesticides, such as DDT and chlordane, are known to be highly lipophilic. These compounds tend to accumulate in fatty tissues due to their molecular structure, which can lead to bioaccumulation in organisms within the food chain.
The organisms at thetop of the food chain will contain the most DDT. These are the top carnivores (or humans if we are in the food chain).DDT builds up in food chains for several reasons:1) It is a persistent pesticide IE: it is difficult for any organisms to break it down, it is non-biodegradable.2) It is soluble in fat, so it enters the fat storage tissue (adipose tissue) and stays there.3) Organisms higher in the food chain consume DDT every time they feed on organisms lower down in the food chain, if they are contaminated with DDT.4) The biomass at each level in a food chain gets less, so the concentration of DDT will increase. The increase in concentration of pesticides in a food chain is called bio-magnification.Additional Information: Seals, Predatory Fish, Bears, Predatory Birds, Bats.
They are called food chains.
Enzymes break down food proteins into smaller molecules that can be carried by blood.During digestion protiens, which are chains of amino acids, are broken down into smaller chains. This is done so that the amino acids can be synthesized in the body.
Food Chains! :)

spreading pesticides with airplanes
soil, water, and food getting contaminated by pesticides
Pesticides are cumulative, so the animals at the end of the food web have more of them.
