How do pesticides pollute the landwater and air?

It contaminates the water because you may accidentally get some in waterways, leave some on the ground (which is then washed along by rain), the spray can be evaporated, or simply because a plant will eventually die and break down. The plant's death, however, doesn't mean the pesticide dies, so (just like any that's left on the ground) it has the very high potential of being washed into things like gutters by the rain. It also gets into the soil from being sprayed on crops and plants, and from there into ground water (water underground; the kind that supplies wells and the like) over time. Water is always moving unless it becomes frozen, so it spreads around, eventually getting into water that reaches the surface.
