Drugs can alter your consciousness and interpretation of bodily sensations, emotions, the five sense and your interpretation of time, events, and mix senses to feel thoughts, smell sights and no end of combinations. They can get you deeply into a particular view or totally turn your perception of reality upside down. They bring out certain thoughts and instincts or seemingly completely suppress them. It's not so much the consciousness being altered as the input of the mind. The awareness is just of these things and can seemingly be caught up into it all as if it were the only reality. Chemical run the body and in a finely tuned manner, and drugs can totally change the firing of neurons, hindering or also causing excess firing. In short, short circuit the brain.

changes the perception of the mind depending on what drug you consume. hallucinagens cause visual "trips" and can trick the mind into hearing things that are not there. Other drugs can cause paranoia, restlessness, and all around make you stupid if you dont do them correctly.

That depends on the drug: most (e.g. antibiotics) have no effect while others (e.g. amphetamines) have very dramatic effects some have effects that are in between these.
