∙ 14y agoThe mother sits on the nest and keeps the babies warm and also breastfeeds them. She makes sure they stay in the nest until they are old enough to venture out on their own (when their eyes have opened.) They begin to see their mother eating solid food and try it themselves. At about 3 weeks, they are old enough to eat solid food and to be separated from their mother.

OK let me get this straight. Rats are animals. All forms of life are equal. People just think they are "gross" because they seek shelter in their homes and sometimes have diseases. Pet rats can quite wonderful. You can find a pet rat at a pet shop for about 5$ to 30$. Tip: Do not try to keep wild rats as pets for various reasons.
