What was the main reason for the civil wars in Lebanon?

The main reason for the civil war in Lebanon was over Religious&Ethical beliefs. The President was a Maronite Christian, the only Christian ruled Nation in the Middle East. The Christian&Muslim Religious Ethics differ greatly causing ethical&civil conflicts. France was a very strong ally of Lebanon and backed the Christians(generally speaking). So in general, it was a war of Religious&Ethical/Social Values in Lebanon that caused the civil war.

How did religious diversity affect that nation after it won its independence from France?

Religious diversity was/is both a blessing and a CURSE. After the French left, the Lebanese adopted a confessionalist democracy where the president is Christian, the prime minister is Sunni and the speaker is Shia. More than half of the representative MPs were Christian (because Lebanon was made for the Christians of the Middle East) - for every 6 Christian MPS there were 5 Muslims. However, Muslims had higher birth rates than the Christians and so their numbers increased, and they wanted more power. Also, the Shia in the south were very sympethetic to Palestinians and wanted to turn Lebanon (which was a comparatively rich country) into a warzone with Israel. In this way, religious diversity became religious factionalism and caused the 15-year-long civil war between 1975 and 1990. Lebanon continues to experience conflicts between rival groups, and border attacks have made it a target for Israeli retaliation.

How did Lebanon get its Independence?

It was a part of the Turkish kingdom, Al Saltanah Al Osmaniyyah. Then after the World War 1 , this kingdom lost in the battle against France and England, some of the causes were the Arabs (and Lebanese) revolutions. France promised Arabs that they'll give them total freedom if they made revolutions against Al Osmaniyyah, but that didn't happen thought the Arabs kept their words and helped France win the War. After the War ended, France took advantage of this and dominated Lebanon and half Syria, while England dominated Palestine and Irak, then gave Palestine to the Jewish so they can build Israel and help them in World War 2. But the Arab revolution kept on going even after World War 2, and they succeeded in getting their freedom and kick France outside Lebanon and England outside Irak. Riyad Al Soloh and Boushara l Khouri are important people of independence
