Scientists can use spectroscopes to gather information because the light from the stars that passes through has a certain color. Each element on the Periodic Table has a specific color. This way, scientist can figure out of which gases the star consists of.
telescope,spectroscope
Scientista started to gather information by observing the stars and learnt from here. First they used parallax to get the distance, then the apparent brightness, but after a while they can get luminosity, size/mass, what fuel they use (eg.helium), and then from that the learnt about the starts lifetime. Hope this is helpful
spectroscope
telescope
Scientists use telescopes to observe and analyze light emitted by stars in distant galaxies. By studying the light's intensity, temperature, composition, and movement, scientists can gather information about the stars' age, size, distance, and other properties. This data helps scientists understand the behavior and characteristics of stars in those galaxies.
To learn what they are made of.
Spectroscope
Hubble
Scientists determine the surface temperature of stars by analyzing their spectral characteristics. They use a device called a spectroscope to split the starlight into its component colors, which reveals absorption lines that correspond to specific elements. By studying the intensity and distribution of these lines, scientists can calculate the surface temperature of the star.
Scientists can determine the contents of stars using spectrometer (spectrograph or spectroscope.) Basically different compounds give off different wavelengths of of light. By measuring the light you can identify the compound.
It identifies the elements by the colors that they give off.
