First of all, you don't want to get close to any sea lion, because as friendly as they seem, they can suddenly show signs of aggression, especially if bothered or harassed, and they can be very territorial in mating season, so you don't want to get too close or involved. Because of that, my opinion would be to stay away and let them be, they can take care of themselves. It's better to stay away. That's my opinion after research on sea lions.
