It is the declared solemn dogma of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church that Mary, upon her death, was not suffered to see bodily corruption but was assumed, body and soul, into Heaven, where she is with God.

The Litany of Our Lady (the Litany of Loreto) calls her Queen (of Angels, Saints, Prophets, Martyrs, etc) and it is the pious belief of the faithful that she is the Queen of Heaven, presiding over the Heavenly court with her Son, Christ the King. There is a feast of the Queenship of Mary in the Catholic calendar. Mary is often depicted wearing a crown, and certain images of the Blessed Virgin are solemnly crowned, as a ceremony of veneration towards the Mother of God, the Queen of Heaven.

The Coronation of Mary as Queen of Heaven is one of the Mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary, one of the mysteries of faith that are meditated upon whilst saying the prayers of the Rosary, counting them with each bead.

In Catholicism, each month is dedicated to one particular devotion of faith. The month of May is the Month of Mary, when her many contributions and actions are particularly remembered. It is a traditional ceremony, often performed during the month of May by the children of the parish, to crown an image of Mary with flowers, as an act of love towards the mother of the faithful.

What special holidays do pentecostals celebrate?

Generally speaking, Pentecostal Christians trace their roots to the Azusa Street revival that occured in the early 1900's. Most belong to such denominations as the Assemblies of God, the Church of God in Christ and the Church of God (Cleveland, TN) or to nondenominational churches. These groups are nonliturgical, so they do not follow traditional church calendars. However, most would celebrate Christmas Eve, Christmas day, Good Friday and Easter.
