I guess you are asking about the outside disconnect. That is for a serviceman to shut it down from outside so he can service it. Look at it the plug and look at the socket. The copper plug bars must go to the box socket which has the copper terminals in the slots.

Im pretty sure that it could be that your ac is running a 3 phase config. and that there is a problem inside of your unit. Also check for a proper ground.
Read the literature for the ac condensing unit, or the tag on the outside of the unit. Minimum circuit ampacity= minimum breaker, wire and fuse size. Maximum circuit ampacity= the maximum size. Your circuit breaker, wire size and disconnect fuses should all be at or between those 2 numbers.

yes, if the ac unit has 2 zones, you will need a thermostat for each zone. if the ac unit provides both ac and heat, you can connect a thermostat for each. not a good way to go. better to use 1 therm in that case that has a heat-cool switch on it so the unit is not putting out both heat and ac at the same time.
There is an AC fuse in the little box located on top of the battery. There are three fuses. If you are standing at the front of the car looking over the engine I believe it is the fuse on the left. 30 amp I think.
