Tectonic Plates seperate what are now called Continents. Pangea was a time when all of the continents were together. The prediction came when scientist realized that Africa and South America fit together very well.
Tectonic plates have been pulling apart forever. At least all the time the earth has been around.
Theory has it that Australia was once part of the super continent of Pangaea, the collection of all that we know today as the continents. Over time Pangaea broke apart and left Australia by itself. This allowed unique plants and animals to develop there (e.g. kangaroos).
They move tectonic plates
A solid mass of land that moves is know as a continent. Continents are made of tectonic plates .They used to be one large super-continent, known as Pangaea, but separated and drifted apart over time.
It is still called Earth.

Pangea is one great landmass. It is not Pangaea that affects us. The term you are probably thinking of is continental drift, which is the moving of the Earth's tectonic plates. Scientists believe that as time moves on the countries are going to drift farther apart. Also, as they drift farther apart, they are technically moving closer together, and once again will form Pangaea. Hope that answers your question.

The average rate of movement of tectonic plates per year is roughly one to two inches. Individual parts of interacting plates can move more than several feet during earthquakes. Over large time spans, tectonic plates can move to all parts of the globe.
The plate tectonics are the mechanisms that started to drift Pangaea (super continent) into separate continents 200billion years ago into the continents we have today. :D
islands change over time by many movements by the tectonic plates and activity
An obvious one is the movement of the tectonic plates.
Pangaea is the name of the super continent that existed about 250 million years ago, before they separated to form the continents we know today. It has to do with plate tectonics because the theory of continental drift (proposed by Alfred Wegener) says that the plates are moving because of sea-floor spreading
the earth's surface is made up of tectonic plates, due to convection currents these plates are moving all the time because of this you have huge tectonic plates pushing against each other. the cause of earth quakes is tectonic plates rubbing against each other, eventually these plates push up wards founing huge mountain vistas such as the himilayas. these plates keep moving and this is whay mount Everest grows 4 inches or so every year (might be 4 millimeters)
