Wetback comes from Mexicans (primarily) illegally entering the US by swimming across the Rio Grande River. Dryback is any illegal that did not get wet while illegally entering. Cuban refugees - if they can step onto dry land (Dryfoot) before being seized, they qualify for political asylum, if not (Wetfoot) they can be deported. Some if not all of these terms can be considered derrogatory in nature.
