when there is a visable rigde / lip on the edge of the disc (rotor) when there is a visable rigde / lip on the edge of the disc (rotor)
you have to take the tire off first.. then take the brake/brake caliper completely off so it doesnt obstruct the rotor.. and it should come right off.. if not, get a rubber mallet or some sort of hammer and tap around the outside edge of the rotor until it comes free.. its a very simple process.. change it out, replace the caliper and tire etc.. Also, if your going to change the brake rotors, I highly recommend you change the brakes as well.. Im about to do all of the above with my 05 avalon!
Rust on the edge of a disk brake rotor is for the most part moot. The car sat in the dealer's lot for some time, and every day or two, a lot boy came by and washed it, and during this little exercise splashed or shot water through the wheels and got the rotors wet. On the EDGE of the rotor, there is no brake contact. That is why you can still see the rust. Even if there were rust on the surface of the rotors, after the first several brake applications the rust would be literally polished off. Consider driving in very rainy conditions, when the streets are very wet. When the car is parked and the rotors are still wet from the wet streets, there will be rust develop on all the surfaces of the rotors. The brake friction material on the pads has a scouring effect on the face of the rotors, and there is no contact of any kind on the edge of the rotors. OCCASIONALLY some of this rust MAY flake off and become lodged between the rotor and the brake pad causing a "Squeel" upon application, but it is not a safety issue. That light coming on when you apply the brakes is your brake sensors, from the front brakes, telling you that it's about time to replace the front brake pads. You still have some time to replace the pads and sensors, maybe a thousand miles would be my guess. Depending on the wear on the rotors (check the lips on the outside edge of the rotors) you might only need to replace the pads, and not the rotors. It's not recommended to turn these rotors, but replace them. It's cheaper to just swap the rotors. You can pick rotors up for under $40.00 each, and pads for around $35.00. Sensors are under $10.00 for the 4 you need. And then the brake grease to apply on the back of the pads is only a few dollars. So for around $125.00, you can have a front brake job, providing you're doing the work yourself. If you take it to a garage, it will cost $3-350.00. Dealerships will probably charge you at least $500.00.

Change brand or composition of disc brake pads and resurface or replace brake rotors. Apart from the obvious worn pads, they will sometimes squeal if the anti-rattle shim is missing, between the back of the pad and the caliper piston. You could try anti-seize compound here (Copaslip). Check that the edge of the rotor has not got a build up of rust.
If they're not secured in some fashion (some sort of keepers on the lug nut studs, etc.) they might be rusted in place. Try smacking them with a hammer around the center by the lug nuts and see if that helps. Don't hit the rotor surface or edge. It could cause damage and make the rotors unusable. I just changed the pads and rotors on my 2001 Sienna with 80,000 mi. This was the first pad change. The old rotors looked brand new, with virtually no wear or scoring. The pads were down to the last 1/16
