The brake light fuse might keep tripping or going out on a 2001 Ford Ranger is there is a short in the line. The fault could also be with the part that tells the brake light to come on. Open the trunk and look behind the tail light. There should be a removable piece of carpet for access to the passenger side tail light. For the drivers side you may have a compartment with two plastic tabs to open it. Open it and there is access to the right side tail light.
There are two screws on the outside of the tail light assembly. Remove these two screws (keep them) and the assembly should be able to be removed from the truck. Carefully twist the socket out of the tail light assembly. Pull the old light bulb out of the socket and replace with new. Insert the tail light assembly into position in the truck bed and replace the two screws.
