This must be done from underneath the car. Should be a plug on the side of the transmission that can be removed to check the level. The gear oil is usually 90 weight - thicker than engine oil. Follow manufacturers guidelines for the amount you add. Too much gear oil is just as bad as not enough. Best to have an experienced mechanic do this ... could save you thousands on a rebuild if things go wrong.

On the 2002 Mitsubishis Lancer , you add the transmission fluid down the dipstick tube. There is a specific fluid for manual transmissions , that information is in the manual under Fluid Capacities.

The only way I know for most autos is to obtain a tall-slender funnel(built for adding trans. fluid) and add the fluid directly to the dipstick tube...BB
