How do you add real world airlines to flight simulator x?

You can find full versions of known airlines on the net. Most are repaints of default craft each plane will have to be installed in its default folder. There are some with installers attached. Some payware is available

The MS - FSX Uses its Airliners in order they appear in the Simobjects file / Aeroplanes.

If you wish to have new fleets in the choice you can download TEXTURES which in many cases are free on the internet. These are added to the individual plane type however, you can only do this if you have the original model i.e. in a standard fsx- no additions you will not have 767 777 etc but you will have the 737, 747, 321s - You can get hold of some great texture that you add to these to make a fleet like BA, THOMSON etc.

If you want to add a new aeroplane you will need to have the complete aeroplane package, again there are some great one on the Internet for free. Many exceptional one have to be paid for

There are a number of virtual airlines on the internet. Each will have its own fleet an, routes and models. MOst have a pilot client that downloads what is required or a help forum to hand hold the new pilot through installation - you may be required to join an on line flight environment to use the texture s so that flight times and hours are recorded

All you need is a working version of fight simulator X or 2004.
Then just find a virtual airlines on the internet (they are free to join). For most of them you will need to download a free add-on for FSX to track your flighting hours and they also have free repaints of the airlines for the planes.
Joining a VA is extremely easy.

If you are bring down the full aircraft file then you place it in the aircrafts folder and fsx should find it on bootup

If you are talking about the radio call signs

there are third-party add-on programs to edit and add airline names to the "airlines.cfg" file. "FSX Airlines Editor" is one such program that allows the user to edit airline names. "Aircrafter - Aircraft Manager for Microsoft Flight Simulator X" is another program that also allows the pilot to change aircraft thumbnail pictures

for atc call signs (radio call sounds) then use editvoicepack
