On a 99 Ram "Sport" 1500 4x4 5.9 Gas the Transmission is a 46 RE and the "Neutral/Back up switch" is located on the Drivers side of the Tranny towards the rear right above the pan.
under the passenger side of the car on the side of the transmission. it should be in between 2 small pipes.
it is under the passenger door on the transmission. you will see it moving if you move the shifter. it is tough getting it off the transmission.
Battery Battery cables Neutral switch (if auto) Clutch safety switch (if std) Starter Starter solenoid switch Ignition switch do other functions work? (wipers, turn signals, radio, etc.)
46RE, 47RE, 48RE, it is on the driver side of the case, just below the shift linkage. 545RFE, 68RFE, it is inside on the valve body.

The NSS is a common failure on the Cherokee. Not only will you have no reverse lights, eventually your Jeep will no longer start. Replacement NSS are on the pricey side, so i recommend a rebuild. Very quick and easy to do and quite a few write-ups have been done. Google "Jeep NSS rebuild".

The Digital Transmission Range sensor is a combination switch/sensor that detects what gear is selected by the shift lever, such as Park, Reverse, Neutral ect.. It has a switch in it that only allows the vehicle to be started in Park and Neutral.
must replace whole turn signal switch.
Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge vehicles do not use inertia/reset switches.
