How do you replace the third brake light on a 1995 through 2001 Ford Explorer all models?

The third brake light is a flourescent light element (there is actually no bulb) that is one part of a two piece system. The second part is a ballast. The "light" is one inclusive trim package. The "ballast" can be purchased individually. Although there is no way to test which piece has gone bad, in most cases the ballast is the culprit. The ballast is the least expensive at around $100 from you local Ford dealer Open the lift gate and remove the trim panel by pulling the trim tabs (there is a tool available at your local parts store) to access the assemblies. Remove the bolts and disconnect the wires. Remove the nuts that hold the light and disconnect the wires.

What are the steps in replacing a drivers side door lock cylinder on a 1991 Subaru Legacy?

Okay, I will try to exlpain the best I can. I did this last year on my 1990 Legacy. Okay If you want one key make sure you get the new cylinder keyed at a locksmith to the ignition key. Use your best key to do this. okay her it goes. First open the door. Second remove all screws out of the inside door cover. I think there are three, one of them is in the handle and has a foam thingy in the hole so just pop the foam out and used a long screwdriver. Now that you have all the screws out you need to pop the plastic grommet things out of place, to do this just pry the door at the bottom and continue around until you pop all out. Now then door should be loose but remember you have a elitric window cable still attached to the door. so reach up and unclick the cable so its loose. Now put inside door cover inside or on the backseat so it does not get scratched up. Okay now there is a weather protecter clear plastic thing covering the inside of the door. remove this only on the left side of the door and just roll it back a little. This thing is really good because it keeps your car dry. Okay now you need to remove the door handle. so first remove the to long rod things that hook into the door handle. This can be removed at the door or the handle. The door is probably best because its a pain to put back together. Remove these rods by pulling the plastic conector directly back and it should unclick. Now move the rods out of the way. Unscrew the door handle from the inside, there are two screws or bolts that hold the handle in place. Now pull the handle out from the outside part of the door. It will come with a little manipulation watch the paint though. Okay now that you have the handle out look at the back of it. There is a small wire clip holding the cylinder lock in place. remove the clip and the cylinder should slide out. now slide the new cylinder which you should have already keyed to the original key into the hole. place the wire clip back in place and nopw you have a new door lock cylinder in the handle. Now you can put it back in using the reverse of what you just did. Have fun. Oh yea dont forget to clip the window cable back when you put your door back together. Peace out!!1 and next time don't buy a pre 1995 Subaru cause they fall apart.

How do you disengage the door lock on a 1979 Corvette?

Door Lock on a '79 CorvetteI had this same problem on my '79. I found that it was the latch not getting out of the way so that the lock can move. I know this sounds strange, but sometimes the latch gets stuck part way through its motion and this will not let the locking device move.

Cure: I sprayed lots of ether (or degreaser or carburetor cleaner), using that little red tube, into the latch unit. This rinses off the old sticky dirty dried out lube. Then I sprayed in a little lube like WD40. Next "flick" the outside handle a few times. Next use the key to move the lock back and forth. It took a couple of tries but the door works fine now.

2002 explorer sport trac 4x4 rear end klunks when put in gear?

Sounds like a Universal Joint to me.. That is the sound of the slop being taken up from the drive shaft. Once they start "klunking" you have maybe another couple hundred miles of use till they fail and your drive shaft falls to the ground while you are driving. If this happens you will need a new drivesfaft as it will destroy the U-joint knuckle.

Why would a 2001 Dodge Caravan windshield wiper motor not stop?

I used to have this problem. The wipers would sweep at odd intervals in intermittent mode and when I turned the wipers off they would not go back in to the 'park' position (they would stop where I turned the switch off). The wiper motor has an issue with the brushes and contact assembly. Oil from the bearing coats the surface of the slip ring and causes intermittent operation. I removed the motor assy from my '96 caravan and cleaned the slip ring and brush with rubbing alcohol. The non-stop operation stopped as well as the 'ghost sweep' operation when in intermittent mode.

Brakes and Tires
Brake Pads and Rotors
Ford Focus
Ford Explorer Sport Trac

How do you change the front brake pads on a 2001 Ford Focus?

I'm not an expert, but I have changed my front brake pads on my 2000 Ford Focus Wagon. I strongly recommend getting a manual for your car which has instructions on how to replace...

Minimum tools you need: a jack, a car stand (don't rely on the jack to hold the car up while you work on it), a tire iron (comes with the car), a Philips and a standard screwdriver, a c-clamp at least six inches in width, and either an Allen wrench or a star shaped wrench (my car takes an 8mm Allen).

  • ** *** Note: you should always use the side you are NOT working on as reference. This is very helpful.

1. Make sure you are on level ground. Loosen the lug nuts, then jack up the car. Put the stand under the body of the car, then lower the car onto the stand.

2. Remove lug nuts, then tire.

3. Behind the brake assembly there are two holding screws, one on top and one on bottom of the brake assembly. These are either Allen bolts or a star shaped bolt. You can't see them, but they are in a rubber sleeve with a little cap over it to protect it from corrosion. Remove the cap from the rubber sleeve and fit the wrench to the screw. You can use a mirror and a flashlight or lamp to help you see the bolt head, but it's hard to get at no matter what... You don't have to remove the bolts, just unscrew them enough so that they no longer hold the brake assembly.

4. Slide the brake assembly from the rotar. Inspect the rotar. If it is grooved or has a lip on it's edge, it may need to be resurfaced or replaced. Resurfacing can be done by any mechanic and if you are in doubt about whether to replace or resurface, they can give you an educated opinion.

5. Remove the brake pads from the brake assembly. They are sometimes held on with a Philips screw, as well as a metal clip. Once the srew (if you have one) and the clip are released pull the brake pad away from the brake assembly.

6. Go to an auto parts store. Make sure to bring your old parts with you, AND, before you leave the store, compare the new parts with the old to make sure they gave you the right parts. This will save you an extra trip to the auto parts store. Apparently they often mislabel parts.

7. Back at your car... look at the brake assembly. You will see a round piston in the middle of the assembly (this is where a manual comes in handy). Compress the piston with the C-clamp until it is flush with the rest of the metal on the brake assembly.

8. Replace the brake pads. MAKE SURE not to bend the clips on the brake pads!!! They don't look like they do much, but in fact, they are an important part of keeping the brake pads attached to the brake assembly. My stupid brother was helping me with my brake replacement and he bent the crap out of my brake pad which totally messed up my brake replacement... Make sure you are kind to these clips or you will have to go to the auto parts store to get another set like I had to do.....

9. If your rotars are fine, put them back on, if not, get new ones or have the old ones resurfaced.

10. Slide the brake assembly back onto the rotar. Align the assembly with the holding screws. Tighten the holding screws and replace the caps on the rubber sleeves.

11. Put the wheel back on, put the lug nuts back on, but wait until you lower the car to really tighten them up. If you don't, you wrench your wheels out of alignment.

12. Do the other side.

13. With your car on the ground, with all the lug nuts completely tightened, start your car up. Pump the brakes a few times to compress the pistons onto the rotars. When you feel the brakes grabbing, you can try using them.

14. There is smoke and bad smells at first, then everything goes back to normal.

  • ** *** **** I didn't mention are grease for the pads that should be applied to the OUTSIDE of the pads because I didn't learn of it until after I fixed my brakes. Apparently this helps with the friction that causes smoke and bad smells... I didn't do this, so I can't tell you how. ALSO, I don't know anything about leaching (?) the brake fluid, aparently this is helpful, but again, I don't really know anything about it except that it prevents air bubbles in the brake fluid. Air bubbles in the brake fluid make your brakes periodically fail to work. This didn't happen to me when I replaced my brakes, but it is apparently a common occurance.

as well just make sure you pop open the brake fluid resvoir. its at the back right of the engine bay. once u open your hook its at top right and has a caution sign on it.. already remember to put it back when done@

after you do first side, pump the brakes few times, it will put piston into proper position and prevent overflowing brake fluid when you compress second piston, also "the grease" mentioned in previous answer is actually glue to prevent brake squeaking, it use to be included with every brake set

Glue on brakes are you insane? You put copper grease on the back of the pads and sides where it comes into contact with the calipers, DO NOT get any on the friction surface or the disk. You must use copper grease as it has a high temperature resistance. When pushing the piston back into the calliper you should, clamp off the brake line, open the bleed nipple, attach a pipe leading to a tub to collect the pushed out break fluid. This protects the ABS unit if you have one fitted and also on GM and some other cars if you do not do this you will turn the master cylinder seals inside out, meaning you will need to replace that. Remember to close the brake nipple and wipe on any fluid. Torque all bolts and wheel nuts to manufacturers specified torque..... or LUGS as known in the USA. .

How do you reset the 'service engine soon' light on a 1997 Camaro?

I have a 1996 Caprice, I assume it's the same method. You turn the key to the "on" position. Fully depress the accelerator three times within 5 seconds. Then turn the key off. When you restart the car, it should be reset.

this did not work

the light is on because there is a problem you can unhook battery for a few mins if the light comes back on after take it to a mechanic and have it scanned for trouble codes

The response "press pedal 3 times" is incorrect, however, this is how to reset the CHANGE OIL light on the Caprice.

CHANGE OIL lights don't exist on the Camaro.

Read what he said below~ O'Riley will look at it too, I'm sure those new AutoZone places will too. But you might want to get it fixed not just unhook the battery. Could be just a misfire.

Just take it to any AutoZone and ask them to read your codes (they hook up a code reader which gives them/you an idea of your problem) and reset you ecu/computer its a free service Could just be your gas cap O2 sensors tune up or a hundred other and worse things.

How do you reset the service engine soon light on a 97 Chevy S10 with a 4.3liter 4wd?

TAke it to auto zone and have the codes read and cleared for free.

unhook the battery for 1 hr if there is no prob it wont come on agian

Most vehicles have a reset button accessible from the accessory fuse panel which is usually behind the dash panel where the shotgun passenger door opens up. Turn the key to the on position and press and hold the reset button for about 10 seconds. The lights should flash and the codes will be reset. The light may come on again if the problem still persists.

How does one replace the windshield wiper motor in a Hyundai 2000 Accent?

the wiper motor is mounted on the outside of the firewall, on the top-passenger side. you will need to pinch off each side of the electrical connector to release the latch and pull on the connector to remove it. The motor is attached with four 10mm bolts. Remove the bolts to free the motor from the firewall. the motor mechanism is attached to the wiper pivot rod and needs to be detached with a pair of needle nose pliers. you will need to pivot the wiper slightly to get better access to the fastening nipple. gently slide the pliers between the motor arm and the pivot rod while applying a slight prying force. It will pop out of place. To reinstall, use a channel lock type of plier and apply only as much force as necessary to the nipple/pivot rod to replace the knuckle in the boot.

Water Pumps
Chrysler LeBaron
Ford Explorer Sport Trac

Where is the water pump located on a 1995 Chrysler LeBaron Convertible and how long does it take to replace it?

FROM Beast of Burden Touch Chrysler/Mitsubishi 3.0L V6 Engine By Larry Carley, Technical Editor

..The water pump pulley runs off the timing belt[ drive the overhead cams]. The recommended replacement interval is 60,000 miles , and considering how much effort is involved to get at these parts it's probably a good idea to replace the water pump, too. Also, check the tube that runs from the back of the pump to the back of the engine. Replace it if it is corroded or leaking. The service life of the OEM water pumps is about the same as the timing belt, so it makes sense to replace both at the same time. You may save yourself a comeback and you'll certainly save your customer a lot of money on labor by doing both jobs at once.

..This engine has two inlet coolant pipes that connect from the heater core and the rear of the engine to the water pump. The pipes are located in the valley of the cylinder block. These pipes are sealed with O-rings on the ends and become easily distorted when the engine is disassembled. If the pipes become distorted or the O-rings are not replaced air can enter the cooling system immediately after start-up.

To check for this after air is detected in a system, check for hydrocarbons in the coolant. If no hydrocarbons are present, look for these pipes to be leaking.

-->> Addition

According to the service manuals for the 1993-1995 LeBarons with 3.0 Litres V6, the recommended timing belt replacement interval is not 60000 miles, it is 100000 miles (somewhat more than 1550000 kms. It is recommended to replace the water pump and the poulley, too. If the timing belt rips, it does not damage your engine, so do not care.

You have to calculate at least 5, up to 10 hrs to replace it yourself. I wrote a photo documented manual 2 years ago, but the text is in german, maybe you could have a look at my pictures to see, what is to do and to estimate the time you will use....

How do you adjust the drivers side windshield wiper after replacing the wiper motor?

This is different for many makes and models. To be more specific you need the year, make, and model of the vehcile. In general most but not all wipers are adjusted by a nut at the base or bottom of the wiper arm where it enters the cowl of the vehicle. Sometimes this nut is coverd by a piece of plastic or metal that will pop off or is hinged to access the nut. If this is the case loosen that nut, move the wiper arm where you want it, and tighten the nut.

How do you get past the plastic peg in the front corner to remove the tail light assembly?

You'll probably have to remove the trunk lining to find the mounting screws or brackets. There is no reason to break any tabs if the procedure is done properly.

Patience is a virtue. :)

peel back lining behind the assembly in will see two little black square anchors and they have wings on eachside that need to be sqeezed this releases the pegs then slide the assembly slightly outward as these pegs on a little track then it should just pull off. be careful not to break these, although it is not the end of the world if u do as you can still rig it up somehow to keep the assembly in place once you have put the assembly back

Where to find the keyless entry code on a Ford Explorer sports trac?

The Explorer Sports Trac module with the code for the keyless entry is located under the defrost panel just under the passenger side windshield. You will need to take a thin flat tool like a putty knife or a butter knife and gently pry the defroster vent off from the dash. Then lean over the hood on the outside passenger side. You will need to pull the passenger side wiper up to see inside clearly. You will also need a flashlight. You will see a white, cream, or yellow colored box. Look for the word FORWARD just above an arrow and you will find the sticker just above that. On some models the 5 numbers are engraved in the module. This will give you the factory code for the door. You can then program the door to a code of your own choosing. YOU CAN NOT change the factory code. Reprogramming instructions are in the owner's manual. If you need these I can post them also but they are they same for virtually every Ford made with the keypad on the door.
