i was abmw master tech for 20 years and the usual rule of thumb is as it always has been in the nautical of areonautical fields. boat means bust out another thousand and BMW means break my wallet. to drive like a sport ye must pay like one. another tried and true method if you have'NT purchased an extended warrantee is to buy the factory repair manual for you year, make, and model and prepare to get a lesson in why these vehicles are so expensive to repair. changing the oil every three thousand miles does go al long way in preserving the seals and gaskets. good isn't cheap and cheap isn't good. fine'
