For XP:
You can try changing the resolution of your screen. While on your desktop, right-click and select 'Properties'. Click the 'Settings' tab, and change the resolution using the bar you see in the window.
Vista:
Right-click on desktop, select 'Personalize'. Click 'Display Settings' and then change resolution in the window that pops up.
