FIRST BRING UP THE # ONE PISTION ON CRANK SHIFT MARK ON TOP X THEN MATCH THE KAM SHIFT MARK TO CRANK {:} TRY THIS GOOD LUCK? {BEEN THERE}
on the two gears that the chain runs on, there are "dots" close to the teeth. align those "dots", and the chain will be in time.
The dots will be together.
There are gold colored links on the chain and dots/dashes on the sprockets.
were dos the dots need to be on the timing chain together or apart
The cam gear and the crankshaft gear both have a dot on them align those two dots as you are installing the chain and gear set...the two dots should be facing one another this will be tdc there is no adjustment of the distributor for a vortec engine so this alignment is critical.
The timing marks are dots on the ends of the camshaft and crankshaft. They are on the sprocket ends where the timing belt or chain connects. The dots should be pointing towards each other for proper setting. The cam dot should be pointing down and the crankshaft dot pointing up. The dots or marks can only be viewed when the timing chain cover is removed. hope this helps...
Look closly at the sprocket and you will see a small dot or indentation,you align both dots (cam and crank sprocket dots)
Timing degrees? The timing is not adjustable, the timing chain is set with the dots and the plated links lined up and the computer takes it from there. When the chain is being installed the #1 piston will not be at top dead center.
The timing marks on a 93 Cadillac 4.9L engine are two dots stamped into the timing chain and the camshaft sprocket. They must be aligned to ensure proper initial timing.
yes you do actually in order to get to the timing chain you have to remove your belts and draining the coolant from the car would be good too as you have to go through the water pump to get to it.sometimes removing a wheel or two will make it easier once you get to the timing chain get the chain off and both sprockets make sure u remember where the dots on the sprockets are because the new ones have to have the dots in the same exact positions as the old ones were in the installation after that is just the reverse of taking it off
If you are asking about the timing chain, Here it is, The crank gear dot should be stright up that is 12 o-clock, that means #1 piston is at TDC on the compression stroke. ( JUST FIRED ) The cam gear dot should be stright down and in a stright line with the crank gear dot, that means the intake and exhaust valves are closed and on the compression stroke. Install both gears with out chain first to aline dots up. Then remove cam gear only and install chain, put gear and chain back on and make sure the dots are lined up over top of each other. Your done.
The gold colored links on the chain line up with dots/dashes on the sprockets.
